Overall Event Design

A planner is in charge of the rentals, the props, the décor originality, finding the appropriate venue, and the table scape.

Sitting In a Tree Design is an event design company that aims to make each of its events unique and a true reflection of its clients. The owner of the company, Tori Hendrix, has a background in interior design and “believes that more is more and that events all start with great design and a whole lotta love.”

“El Capitan. Birds of a Feather,” took place in the El Capitan Canyon in California, and played off the guests feeling as if they were at summer camp. Props included glam gold lanterns, a collected leaf table garland, and fancy moonshine in mason jars.

The reception area is where Sitting in a Tree showed off its knack for great design: with rustic wooden picnic tables covered in sheer lace cloths and mismatched floral napkins; a collection of bottles, candlesticks, and lanterns that adorned the table tops, giving the right balance of heights and textures; and an area with hanging flowers and a trunk filled with a garland made of sticks

These were the grand design focal points, but one can tell the hard work Sitting in a Tree infused throughout the entire event, with other small details such as the single proteas used instead of bridesmaid bouquets, the lit-up letters spelling out “love” attached to a tree, or Ben Howard’s “Old Pine” playing during the processional. Anything that combined elegance with the rustic nature of a campground was used to create the overall aesthetic, capturing the best friendship and casual, playful vibes that describe the couple’s relationship so accurately.

From Meagan, the bride: “El Capitan Canyon is a magical place for us to begin with. I think that was the first right move we made. Get married somewhere that has meaning for you. Everything was beyond beautiful and authentic to Ryan and myself”

The Sitting in a Tree ladies were able to intuitively figure out the relationship between Meagan and Ryan and use that knowledge to craft a unique day that the couple, as well as their family and friends, are likely to never forget. The day was a true reflection of their personalities, their style, and their love. This is what I think event planning is all about, and this is where I find my passion.
